First thoughts: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

First thoughts: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

For September, Microsoft offered Tomb Raider Definitive Edition as part of their free Games for Gold. I was quite reluctant to download it, I haven’t played Tomb Raider since I was about  8 and used to lock the butler in the freezer. I’m not sure which one that was. I digress. I caved and downloaded it because, hey, it’s free. What’s the worst that could happen?

But I have to say, this game is amazing, which isn’t something I ever thought I would be saying about a Tomb Raider game. And after binge-playing it for 2 days in a row, I’m still only 57% of the way through.

I don’t think I’ve played anything this tense since Dead Space. This game manages to keep a definite sense of danger and tension throughout. So far I’ve seen a whole bunch of collectibles but I’ll be honest I’ve been too focused on the storyline to stop and try and collect any of them.

What a storyline though. I don’t want to ruin it for myself by reading what happens, but so far it’s amazing. But what the hell is up with this Sun Queen thing? It better not be magic in the end. I fucking hate magic. I wanna see some science damnit.

Finally, what is the deal with those crazy giant Guardians? Let’s talk about that for a minute. What the hell is their deal? Why are they so massive? And why, for the love of God, are there so many bodies everywhere? How many people washed up on this island?! Good grief.

I’m actually super stoked to see how this plays out. The story is super intriguing and has plenty of questions that I really need the answer to. The only thing I would change is maybe to make it a bit more sandbox-y (I love a good sandbox game) so I could just hunt some animals out in the forest like a bad ass.
